tackle may burnout

It’s almost mid-year. Time is flying by so fast without us knowing it. With Covid-19, I feel like I haven’t achieved much in 2020. Sometimes, I want to give up and take things the easy way. Going to a community college, taking easy courses, meeting friends through parties sound like a great deal. However, once that hits, I know it’s a signal that I’m exhausted and overworked. Instead of allowing myself to fall into a downward spiral, I’ve created systems to handle the hard times. It doesn’t eradicate my burnout, but it helps to temper it. It sets me up on a new path and helps me to reignite my creative flame.
Everyone will experience burnout at some point in their life. Trust me, you’re not special. Different causes of burnout include lack of control, social media, pessimism, lingering feelings of the past, etc. Identify your own causes and find a way to tackle it. The world sucks right now, and no one is thrilled with their current circumstances, but letting your situation eat away at you negatively isn’t helpful. Make peace with your past. Start a gratitude journal. Take a break from IG. List a few things you can control and focus on those. The earlier you start the journey, the easier you will be brought back to the present.
Lastly, I want to share a story. This week during remote AP exams, I failed to submit my AP Lit essay on time due to an internet crash. Instead of letting myself spiral in the endless despair or mourn over my perfect (in my opinion) essay, I decided to let it go and focus on what is coming next. I am grateful that I still have a chance to retake the test. I am thankful that I have extra time to study more and improve my writing skills. Face your situation with optimism and gratitude. You will see things from a new perspective.
